Mount Carmel College

Mount Carmel College for women was established in 1944 by the Carmelite sisters of St Teresa to fill the lacunae in women’s education. The college was first located at Trichur and was affiliated to Madras University. However, it was transferred to Bangalore in 1948, and began operations on the 7th of July, 1948 with just 50 students on its rolls. While today

Mount Carmel Bangalore was granted autonomous status in September 2005 & was re-accredited with an A + status by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006. The institution has been identified as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by UGC in 2006. MCC Bangalore has been ranked among the top twenty colleges in India by India Today & The Week magazines.

Mount Carmel college Bangalore courses offered include graduate & post graduate programs in Commerce & Management, Humanities, Science, and Applied Science & Design with over 5,500 students pursuing various programs on campus. Overall, the college offers 37 Undergraduate, 2 B.Voc & 19 post graduate & doctoral programs. Mount Carmel College has also established an Institute for Management Studies (MCIM) in 1992 to provide women students with an opportunity to pursue management education. The College has well established research facilities, State of the Art laboratories, and facilitates research culture among staff & students. MCC Bangalore has 3 auditoria on campus, audio visual rooms, video conference rooms, canteen, sporting facilities, hostel, stationery, bank, dispensary, internet and a Montessori school as well which is run by the Department of Home Science.

In order to enroll for the UG programs, students need to have passed the 2 year Pre University Examinations conducted by the Karnataka Pre University Education Board or equivalent examinations. To enroll for PG programs, candidates need to have passed the UG examination with 50% marks & above in the core subjects. The college also offers hostel facilities on campus for students.

Mount Carmel college courses under Commerce & management include Bcom & Mcom programs that initiate students into the principles & practices of advanced accounting & the dynamics of management together with marketing, banking, auditing, company law, secretarial practice and allied disciplines. There are BA/ MA courses in the Arts section offering several combinations, Bsc/ Msc courses in various subjects including biotechnology & biochemistry. Under Applied Sciences & design, several Bsc/Msc combinations in nutrition & dietetics, fashion & apparel designing, home science & human development are available.

To address challenges of education in a fast changing world, Mount Carmel College has established the Centre for Extended Education (CEE) which coordinates a wide variety of holistic credit courses across multiple disciplines and contributes to holistic development of students. The list of credit courses is exhaustive & includes Yoga, billiards; MS excel Computing Tool, Photoshop, Embroidery, Terracotta, Computer Hardware & Networking, and Ornithology among several others. CEE also conducts training for competitive entrance tests, Common Admission test (CAT), Bank PO/ Clerical Entrance, LIC & Staff Selection Commission (SSC) exams as well.


As per Mount Carmel College Bangalore admission policy, special consideration is extended to the differently abled, economically backward, scheduled castes & tribes , backward communities & catholic minorities however apart from these categories, all other seats are allocated on purely merit basis.
